Picture This – Photography Fundamentals
Oct 11 @ 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Discover the fundamentals of photography with professional photographer Jacques Gaines.

With the help of professional photographer Jacques Gaines, the Morrin Centre offers a series of five photography workshops. Each workshop will present a different aspect of photography, from framing to photo-editing.

Participants may either audit the workshop (attend just to watch) or bring the following items to actively participate in the exercises:

A camera. Whether a $100 camera or a $5000 camera, we do not care. Anything goes! It can even be your phone, though it should then be a fairly recent phone.
The picture you are most proud of. It can be a digital copy or a print. (You do not have to show it to the class).

In addition to that, please:
Dress for the weather outside. After the workshop, for those willing, the teacher will sometimes do a small photo walk if we have the time.

WE Dads hike for dads and kids
Oct 22 @ 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Join us for a hike on the Sentier de la Foret ancienne trail at Mont Wright on Saturday, October 22 at 9am.  Dads, father figures, step dads or grandfathers are all invited to this great excursion outdoors with their little ones, with Jarryd, our WE Dads community animator.

Meet in the parking lot at 9:00 a.m.  This is a popular place, so hopefully the early start will allow everyone to get a parking spot!   The plan is to hike to the top and enjoy a picnic lunch together, so be sure to bring along a healthy lunch for your family (please avoid nuts for those with allergies).

Of special note

  • Mont Wright charges a fee of $7 per adult.  Children under 17 are free. There is a ticket machine at the entrance to the trails, near the reception pavilion. You can pay by credit or debit (Visa, Mastercard, Interac).
  •  The trail we will be taking is called ‘Sentier de la Foret ancienne’.  It is a 4km loop.
  • We expect this outing to take 3.5-4 hours.  It will be a 2 hour hike to the top, a half hour stop for lunch, and then about an hour to come back down.
  • This is NOT a stroller friendly trail and can be quite steep in some parts.  Accompanying children will need to be great walkers and for little ones we recommend carrying them in a hiking backpack.
  • Be sure to dress for the weather and pack a lunch, snacks and water.
  • See this map for directions to get there.

Who can attend

This particular event is open to all father figures and and kiddos! For more details please contact Jessica Price, Family Matters Program Coordinator, by email.

Workshop & tapas event: Parenting in challenging times
Nov 16 @ 6:30 PM

Parenting is always a challenge, but perhaps even more so in our uncertain times. It seems more complex to be a parent these days, considering new social media technologies and the major global issues encroaching on our everyday lives, such as the pandemic.  Join us for this, our first in-person parenting workshop since the pandemic.  Our special guest speaker is renowned psychology professor Dr. George Tarabulsy, who is also a father himself. All parents welcome!

About the workshop

Dr. Tarabulsy will address some of the old, not-so-old, and new issues surrounding parenting. He will focus on the fact that, while some aspects of parenting never change, the core aspects of parenting may take on different forms when faced with pressures that may come from outside the family and the social context that surrounds it. His presentation will draw both on the first-hand experiences of parents and on the vast body of scientific knowledge looking at parenting in adverse circumstances.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Don’t miss this event for seasoned parents, new parents, and future parents-to-be. Join us at 6:30 p.m. for tapas and meet and mingle with other English-speaking parents. The talk will start at 7:00 p.m., and will be followed by a question and answer period.

Reserve your ticket!

Space is limited for this event so be sure register using the green Register button above. For more details or questions, please contact Jessica by email.

Quebec Art Company – “The Game’s Afoot”
Nov 27 @ 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Tickets now on sale for QAC’s The Game’s Afoot

Reserve your tickets without delay for the latest top-notch theatrical offering from the Quebec Art Company, Quebec City’s premier community theatre troupe.

Ken Ludwig’s The Game’s Afoot; Holmes for the Holidays is described as “breathtaking mystery and high hilarity in equal parts.”

The plot: Broadway star William Gillette has invited his fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. Then it’s up to Gillette himself, who just happens to think he’s Sherlock Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears.

Cue the laughs and gasps! The danger and laughter are non-stop in this glittering whodunit set during the Christmas holidays.

Featuring a talented cast and directed by Cheryl Rimmer, The Game’s Afoot takes to the stage of CEGEP Champlain-St. Lawrence for four performances, opening Thursday, Nov. 24 and finishing with a Sunday matinee.

Tickets are $20 and can be reserved on the QAC website (quebecartcompany.com).
