Join VEQ, in partnership with the Municipality of Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier will offer a unique cooking workshop that will have us collectively make several meals that can be frozen, as well as a communal lunch together. A facilitator will guide the group through several recipes in the community center kitchens. Participants will be asked to bring a part of the ingredient list or other supplies.

Eating has become a confusing experience. Virtually every day brings news about some “miracle food” that we should be gulping down. One day it’s tomatoes to prevent cancer, then flaxseed against heart disease or soybeans for menopause. Then there are the worries: genetic modification, aspartame, MSG, the safety and efficacy of dietary supplements. We need proper science to guide us through this nutritional maze.

Hosted by St. Gabriel-de-Valcartier’s own Derek Montgomery, a certified financial planner with IG, VEQ will be hosting a workshop that will discuss financial issues that people face as they age. This specific workshop will highlight financial considerations in post-retirement and the financial challenges one may face in this stage. This workshop will aslo cover financial estate planning. During the summer of 1942, German U-Boats entered the Gulf of St. Lawrence and sank over two dozen Allied ships. The devastation was so great that the British Admiralty had to order the shutdown of the whole St. Lawrence system.
Based on the logs, and interviews with the surviving U-boat commanders, this illustrated lecture describes the extraordinary circumstances under which this campaign took place. It also relates several German spy missions in Canada waters and an incredible breakout of captured German submarine commanders from their camp in Ontario.
