How can you make your home safer and everyday activities easier? Join an occupational therapist for a practical workshop designed for older adults and caregivers who want to better understand common risks at home and how to prevent them.
You’ll discover ways to adapt your living space to your needs and daily activities, helping you maintain your independence and remain at home for as long as possible.
The workshop will also include a demonstration of safer transfers, such as standing up from a chair or moving from a bed to an armchair, with guidance for caregivers on supporting a loved one through these movements.
This event will be held at the Jeffery Hale Pavilion, in rooms 1123 and 1125.

Stay active, strong, and energized with our 50+ Fitness class!
Designed for older adults, this weekly program combines low-impact cardio activities such as dance with strength and balance exercises to keep your body moving safely. Whether you’re a beginner or already active, movements can be adapted to match your comfort and capacity. Join us on Wednesday afternoons at 1:30 p.m., from October 14 to December 2, and enjoy a fun, supportive environment that helps you stay fit and confident.
Join us for a NEW addition to our ‘Move for Mental Health’ activities: Essentrics®!
Essentrics is a dynamic full-body workout that combines stretching and strengthening to build lean, flexible muscles. The workout focuses on eccentric contraction—stretching a muscle while it is engaged.
Created by former ballerina Miranda Esmonde-White in Montreal, Canada, it treats the body as one connected system.
Below are the key details about how it works:
The Science
- Eccentric Contraction: Traditional exercises (like lifting weights) shorten muscles. Essentrics stretches the muscle while under tension. This mimics the body’s natural braking system.
- Rehydrates Fascia: Fascia is the connective tissue that wraps around muscles. Lack of movement causes fascia layers to stick together. Essentrics’ fluid, slow movements lubricate these tissues, making you feel less stiff.
- Full-Body Movement: Instead of isolating muscles (like only working your biceps), it uses the whole body. This prevents joint damage and protects against injury.
Top Health Benefits
- Relieves Pain: Many people use it to reduce chronic back and joint pain.
- Improves Posture & Shape: It naturally elongates the body, resulting in a toned, slender physique without bulky muscles.
- Increases Mobility: It restores full movement to stiff joints.
How to Practice
- Equipment-Free: It uses your own body weight and gravity to create resistance.
- No Impact: There is no jumping, kneeling, or heavy lifting.
- For Everyone: It is designed for all ages and fitness levels.
Classes are led by Joëlle Turcotte, a certified Essentrics instructor since 2019. With extensive training and nearly four decades of professional experience, well-being, self-awareness, and body awareness are the core principles that motivate Joëlle’s guiding of participants of all ages and skill levels.
You’ll need to bring with you:
- a yoga-type mat
- a bottle of water
- wear comfortable clothes
Space is limited to a maximum of 12 participants.
$60.00 for all eight classes. Note that refunds will not be issued for missed classes, unless the class is cancelled by us.

Hey guys! We need your help to build some holiday cheer for the holiday season outside Saint Brigid’s Home. We’re looking for 4 or 5 guys to put up and decorate 6 Christmas trees in the garden at Saint Brigid’s, a long-term care facility for seniors. This gesture will go a long way to making Christmas festive for everyone who lives and works there.
Don’t miss this chance to get together with other men and share some laughs, while also giving back to the community. Together, we will:
- Build bases for each tree
- Set up the trees at Saint Brigid’s Home
- Secure them to ground
- And light ’em up!
