The position

As a Guidance Counselor within Complementary Services, the mandate will be to support school teams in guiding students’ social-emotional, academic, and career development. The selected candidate will use their professional expertise to advise, equip, and accompany school teams as they assess students’ needs, understand available academic pathways, and implement strategies that foster student well-being and interventions that address their socio-development and academic needs. The guidance counsellor will play an essential role in promoting the optimal development of students and in creating educational environments that are supportive, inclusive, and safe.

Your Responsibilities

• Participate in the development and implementation of school and career guidance services, ensuring alignment with academic and administrative requirements.

• Assist school guidance counselors with file analysis, intervention planning, and student placement by offering consultation and professional expertise.

• Provide guidance to school teams on programs, pathways, and the TEVA approach, helping them interpret options and make informed recommendations.

• Identify and map TEVA related resources available within the school board and through external partners.

• Prepare and deliver awareness, information, and training sessions for personnel involved in TEVA, career choice courses, and the Learning Oriented Approach.

• Establish and maintain relationships with partners involved in relevant programs, providing advice, information, and coordination support.

• Inform schools of resources and services available to strengthen collaboration.

• Collaborate with external health and social services and community organizations to support school teams in student orientation processes.

• Advise school administrators and make recommendations to support decision making.

• Attend provincial and regional meetings related to TEVA and WOTP, as well as participate in educational services activities and committees.

• Prepare and update records according to established standards, providing progress and follow up reports on interventions carried out with school teams.

• Offers professional support to school teams by accompanying them in intervention strategies and contributing to the development of coordination plans, reintegration plans, or intervention protocols.

• Support schools in assessing student needs, in determining appropriate interventions and in the implementation of coherent systems and structures.

• Provide support in complex or crisis situations, collaborate in prevention initiatives, and participates in interdisciplinary work with other professionals, and partners.

• Participate in case studies within a multidisciplinary team.

Job Requirements & Skills Sought

  • Hold a university degree in an appropriate field of specialization, including guidance counselling.
  • Be a member of the Ordre des conseillers et conseillères d’orientation du Québec.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written English skills and good oral and written French skills.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, principals, parents, and supervisors.
  • Ability to travel to various schools within the CCQS territory.
  • Ability to establish relationships based on courtesy, respect, and integrity.
  • Respect for the direction and values of the school and community.
