Mindfulness is the art and practice of of being fully aware of what’s happening in the moment – emotionally, cognitively, in any way! It involves nourishing the capacity to be conscious of what you’re doing and of what is happening around you, as well as inside you, with open curiosity, kindness and an attitude of non-judgement. Mindfulness can be particularly helpful during stressful times because it can help us step back from our stormy minds, procide a calmer perspective, and reveal healthier choices available to use. It can also help when we need to focus on a difficult or complicated task by reducing the ‘chatter’ of our internal monologue. While it may come naturally to some, mindfulness takes practice to master.
Join professional psychologist Dr. Meagan Daley in-person at the Wellness Centre at Jeffery Hale for a 1.5-hour session in Mindfulness.

Did you know that reading is good for your mental health as well as for your interpersonal relationships? For instance, psychologists from the New School for Social Research noted in 2013 that reading literature improved one’s ability to register and read other people’s emotions.
The Morrin Centre welcomes visitors during its regular library hours to explore book displays on mental health (free for members; $5 for non-members). Current Library hours are: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They are located at 44 Chaussée des Écossais, Québec, QC G1R 4H3. Any way you read it…the novel is still able to instruct and delight.
–Borealis Press
Come learn about Canada’s first novel at our half-day symposium aimed to inform and delight. We ask: what value is there in reading Frances Brooke’s The History of Emily Montague today?
First published in 1769 and set in what eventually became Quebec City, this epistolary novel gives an intimate glimpse of social life just after the British conquest of New France. It is inspired by the writer’s own experience.
Offering insights on relations among the English, the Canadiens, and the Huron-Wendat, the novel reveals both progressive views and racial prejudices of the period through interwoven love stories. It sheds light on a complicated colonial past whose legacy continues to challenge us. The invited speakers will help us address important facets of the novel: Donald Fyson (specialist in 18th–20th century Quebec history at Université Laval), Linda M. Morra (specialist in Canadian women’s literature at Bishop’s University), Jean-Philip Rochon Paul (Huron-Wendat Nation), Peter Sabor (Canada Research Chair in Eighteenth-Century Studies at McGill University), and Philip Sioui (Huron-Wendat Nation).
The talks will be accompanied by dramatic readings. A character actor and a touch of period music will add a flavour of the time. Whether you have read the novel or not, whether you are a member of the public or a specialist in the field, you are sure to come away with new perspectives on a novel which has continued to engage generations of readers.
More information about the presenters and their talks coming soon!

• Signs and causes of hearing loss
• The impact of hearing loss
• Aids and other tools to help improve hearing and communication skills

PRESENTERS
Based in Quebec City, the ensemble Duo Fleur d’Ange includes vocalist Angelina Lynne and harpist Yu-Fen Liu and was formed in 2022. They feel fortunate to have come into contact with each other during the pandemic and decided to share their passion for music together. Since then, the Quebec City duo has performed in the festival series Les Micros-Shows de Beaupré, in benefit concerts for the Manor Mauvide-Genest at the Église de-Saint-Jean-de I’Île d’Orléans, and at the Eastman School of Music in New York. Besides performing public concerts, they also enjoy performing for private events, such as for the lovely residents of the Saint-Brigid’s senior care home in Quebec City regularly.
Together, they represent a classic and angelic marriage of voice and harp, offering a multilingual repertoire of varied styles, from classical to contemporary, jazz, traditional and pop, that speaks to all ages and a combination of instrumental sounds that appeals to all. This musical duo will leave you inspired as they celebrate and share their joy of music!
ANGELINA LYNNE
Angelina Lynne is a versatile singer, musician, and educator currently residing on Île d’Orléans. A classically trained soprano, Angelina enjoys singing in many genres. She has performed in various recitals, concerts, and festivals in Canada and abroad, in the Middle East, Europe, New Zealand, the United States, and Mexico. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree, a Master’s degree in performance (voice), and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in music education at Université Laval. As a music educator and lifelong learner, Angelina’s passion for music has taken her across the globe. Passing on her love of singing to the next generation is paramount. She has served as artistic director and vocal coach for various musical theatre productions and youth choirs and in Canada and Belgium. She maintains an active music studio, teaching voice and piano in French and English. Her love of singing is contagious as she encourages people of all ages to use their voices and sing for joy!
YU-FEN LIU
Originally from Taiwan, harpist Yu-Fen Liu holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in harp performance from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, where she studied with Sarah Bullen, principal harpist of the New York Philharmonic and later of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Liu has performed with various orchestras in New York City, including a long relationship with Ureuk Symphony Orchestra, as well as with the City University of New York Contemporary Ensemble and the Young People’s Concert Series at Lincoln Center. She was awarded the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society Certificate of Merit in 1993. In addition to her classical performances, she also offers a wide range of musical styles. Since moving to Quebec, she has performed with the symphony orchestra and opera studio of Université Laval, the Ensemble Lunatik, the Ensemble 27, and at different local and regional events.
This concert-recital is part of the Morrin In Verse project, which is made possible thanks to the Government of Canada.

Wolff is also the former owner of the Durham Bulls, the Quebec Capitales, the Burlington Royals, and ten other minor league, independent, and summer collegiate teams. He is the former publisher and owner of Baseball America, and Total Baseball, the official encyclopedia of Major League Baseball, named him among the top 100 individuals in the history of baseball.

If you’re aged between 14-16 years old, join us at the Wellness Centre at Jeffery Hale for five weeks this summer for fun workshops focusing on photography and creative writing in collaboration with LOVE (Québec).
Develop new photography skills during the photography workshops! LOVE will bring semi-professional cameras and teach participants how to use them through various kinds of photography (portraiture, close up, black and white, etc.).
The creative writing and group discussion workshops will highlight various social topics such as diversity and inclusion, social standards and media safety (to name a few!) with the intention of reflecting on how these social aspects affect the participants, and their peers, on a daily basis.
There will also be time for sharing personal stories and developing active listening skills during these workshops.
Registration required. Participants are requested to attend all five sessions.
