Parenthood is a beautiful and rewarding experience, but it can also have its fair share of anxiety and stress. Parental anxiety can stem from various concerns such as your child’s well-being, development and future. Left unaddressed, parental anxiety can have a significant impact on both parents’ mental health and your family’s overall dynamic.
Whether you’re a future parent, a first-time parent, or have been on this journey for a while, this workshop is for you It aims to provide you with valuable insights and practical strategies to manage your anxiety as a parent through the following:
- Explore common triggers and underlying factors that contribute to parental anxiety, such as pressures from society, wanting to be perfect and fear of failure.
- Learn how to identify the signs and symptoms of parental anxiety in yourself (and your partner), as well as how it may show up in your child’s behaviour.
- Discover resources to help you become more resilient when facing the challenges of parenthood.

How can we make sense of the world and maintain hope for the future? Come share your ideas, what you’re reading and writing, and how they help. Discover how Jean-Louis Trudel, a science fiction author and professor, and Michèle Thibeau, creative writer, sustain their own optimism. They will discuss creative non-fiction and science fiction, including hopepunk and solarpunk, that outline new courses of action in optimistic works.
If you believe good writing and surprising scenarios can help bridge the gap, preparing us for possible futures, join us at Morrin Centre on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at 6 pm.
Jean-Louis Trudel has been writing science fiction since 1984, and he’s been following climate change for almost as long. While he’s been teaching university students about it for twenty years, he feels we need to propose kinder and brighter futures, both to science fiction audiences and to younger generations.
This event is in partnership with Lifelong Learning, a program by Québec City Reading Council, and is open to all 50+ LLL members.
Take a moment to pause as we carve out some essential time in our busy week. Let’s release the tensions and pressures of everyday life and inhale deeply. This is your moment. A chance to rejuvenate your mind and soothe your spirit. During the session, we’ll begin by releasing accumulated stress, ensuring we feel grounded, then proceed with a tranquil face massage, culminating in a peaceful meditation. Hazel will be your guide through this mindfulness journey as we ease into a slower pace and refresh our senses.
Join Hazel (Tropic), Catherine (Lifelong Learning) and Verity (WE Mind Mental Health) for a relaxing afternoon to celebrate Mental Health Week. Participants will also receive a Mental Health Goodie Bag!
Registration is limited to 14 people.

Did you know that reading is good for your mental health as well as for your interpersonal relationships? For instance, psychologists from the New School for Social Research noted in 2013 that reading literature improved one’s ability to register and read other people’s emotions.

Current Library hours are: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They are located at 44 Chaussée des Écossais, Québec, QC G1R 4H3. Mindfulness is the art and practice of of being fully aware of what’s happening in the moment – emotionally, cognitively, in any way! It involves nourishing the capacity to be conscious of what you’re doing and of what is happening around you, as well as inside you, with open curiosity, kindness and an attitude of non-judgement. Mindfulness can be particularly helpful during stressful times because it can help us step back from our stormy minds, procide a calmer perspective, and reveal healthier choices available to use. It can also help when we need to focus on a difficult or complicated task by reducing the ‘chatter’ of our internal monologue. While it may come naturally to some, mindfulness takes practice to master.
Join professional psychologist Dr. Meagan Daley in-person at the Wellness Centre at Jeffery Hale for a 1.5-hour session in Mindfulness.
