Lifelong Learning is delighted to partner with Canada Revenue Agency and the Voice of English-Speaking Quebec to help make the process easier and more beneficial to our community. On October 25th, the CRA will join us to discuss the needs specific to the Lifelong Learning members and to promote the CRA tools and resources available to assist in applying for the credits and benefits you may not be aware you are entitled to. Please come with your questions, the CRA will be delighted to answer your individual questions after their presentation.

Thanks to the Quebec City Women’s Club, SNACS Entrepreneurs is now running the annual Book Fair event, in collaboration with Jeffery Hale Community Partners and VEQ.
Book Fair will take place on Saturday, November 3, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It will be held at Eastern Québec Learning Centre; (EQLC) as usual. Books to donate? Please drop them off before October 26! As usual, you are welcome to continue to drop off your books at the EQLC. Leave them between the front doors, Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. You can also drop books off at the community Wellness Centre in the Jeffery Hale Pavilion, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Leave them on the cart identified with the Book Fair logo that is just inside the big sliding doors at the main entrance of the pavilion. If you cannot drop off your books, we may be able to pick up them up before that date also. (see phone number below) Pricing of books is as follows: paperbacks (or softcover) are $1, hardcovers are $2. As usual, there will be a “specials” section with its own pricing. All proceeds from the Book Fair will be reinvested in creating work platforms for people with special needs. The goal of SNACS Entrepreneurs is to offer on-the-job training opportunities and employment to people with intellectual disabilities while also providing the community with quality services. Saturday, Nov. 3 from 2 – 4 p.m., Trinity Anglican Church Women will be hosting their FALL TEA & SALE in Colley Hall, 2687 Chemin des Quatre Bourgeois, St. Foy, Qc. This two-part workshop will introduce participants to creative music-making with iPads and other simple digital musical instruments. Digital musical instruments (including iPads) offer an inclusive opportunity for collaboration and creative expression through music. Participants will be guided in musical activities, which will include improvisation, song-making, exploration of sound, and learning to play personally meaningful songs with digital instruments.
Prior musical experience is not necessary – Andrea’s approach is based on the idea that we are ALL musicians, and her aim is to explore the ways in which technology can provide us with the means to engage with music-making.
NOTE: This is a two-day workshop and, although not mandatory, it is suggested that participants be available for both dates. iPads will be supplied for each participant.

Workshop 2: Tuesday, 27 November, 10 – 12pm
The workshop will be held in the Lifelong Learning boardroom, room 201 (second floor). The boardroom is not accessible for all as it is located on the second floor of the EQLC.

We ask that each attendee bring one edible item to share, whether it’s your favorite baked good, sweets, or snack. Feel free to either highlight your baking skills or bring an item from your favorite market or boulangerie. Everything is welcome!

It’s time for Lifelong Learning’s annual Welcome Back Tea and social event. This is the time to share a cup of tea with your friends and staff of Quebec City Reading Council. We will be taking membership fees for the upcoming year and offering a host of edible treats for you to enjoy. This event is open to English-speaking adults age 50 and over.
Lifelong Learning is Quebec City Reading Council’s unique program for individuals over the age of 50. LLL provides opportunities for idea exchange, peer-learning and active participation. We run a variety of educational and social sessions throughout the year. Programs include discussion groups, workshops, computer skills, multi-cultural topics, food and more! Come to the Welcome Back Tea to learn more about our program! Lifelong Learning is a peer-driven program. There is a nominal membership fee which helps support costs for special items. The annual fee includes a guest pass for one event plus free admission to all scheduled Lifelong Learning activities and events throughout the year. The 2019 AGM comes at a very exciting time for the Quebec Art Company. Boosted by last year’s success of “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “A Streetcar Named Desire,” the QAC has two more ambitious and crowd-pleasing shows in the works – “Noises Off,” a romping farce, coming in May; and the moving musical “Fiddler on the Roof,” taking the stage in late November. Initial auditions for “Fiddler” take place on March 2 and 3 (See the QAC website for details: www.quebecartcompany.com ). The business part of the AGM includes the reports of the executive officers, resolutions pertaining to the ongoing function of the company, and nomination of the 2019-20 QAC executive. After all that, we’ll share some snacks and refreshments. |

Wednesday, April 3 at 7 p.m. – Cornell University Chorus concert on the theme of “Visions and Dreams” at Chalmers-Wesley United Church, 78 Rue Ste-Ursule. Admission $20. The 46-voice university choir, from Ithaca, New York, will perform music from the 16th century to the present day in five different languages. They explore music that conveys a vision, or relates a dream, or simply induces in the listener a dreamlike state.
