Le Labyrinthe | The Maze – Movie Screening
Mar 13 @ 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM

In partnership with Carrefour d’action interculturelle (CAI), we invite you to a special screening of Le Labyrinthe | The Maze, a compelling documentary by Clarissa Rebouças that offers a rare glimpse into the lives of immigrants as they navigate the complexities of starting over in Quebec City.

This film follows the stories of eight immigrants, many of whom hold precarious or undocumented status. Through their personal journeys, they reveal the intricate challenges and small triumphs they encounter as they work to rebuild their lives in a foreign land. From cultural barriers to navigating bureaucracy, each story sheds light on the resilience, determination, and hope that keeps them going.

Le Labyrinthe | The Maze is more than a film; it’s a window into the often unseen struggles and courage that define the immigrant experience. Join us for this powerful screening, followed by a Q&A session where we’ll discuss the themes of the film and explore ways to support immigrant communities in Quebec City.

Traditional Sugar Shack
Mar 15 @ 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Join us for a sugar shack experience with traditional Quebecois flavours, live folk music, and fun outdoor activities! Open to all!🍁🎶

A sugar shack (cabane à sucre in French) is a traditional maple syrup-producing cabin found in Québec and other parts of eastern Canada. It is a place where people gather in late winter or early spring to enjoy a traditional meal and taste fresh maple syrup. Originally, sugar shacks were built near maple tree groves where maple sap was collected and boiled to produce maple syrup. Today, many sugar shacks operate as seasonal restaurants offering traditional Quebecois meals and entertainment.

Plus, enjoy classic sugar shack activities:
🪗Live traditional music during the meal
🍭 Maple taffy on snow
🛷Snow slides, snow scooters & children’s snowshoes
🌲 Scenic trails around the sugar shack and access to all outdoor installations

It is very important to let us know if you have any allergies right after you book your ticket! Please, email Viktoria at newcomers@veq.ca to be sure that we inform the restaurant about your allergy in advance.

🚙 Transportation

If you need transportation, please follow this link to book a transportation ticket!

At VEQ, our goal is to provide access to a variety of activities for everyone in our community. However, we’ve noticed that our free transportation service has experienced a significant number of no-shows, which has unfortunately led to wasted resources that could have been used to fund other exciting activities for all.
To help ensure that everyone who needs a ride can rely on the service, starting in February 2025, we will be requesting a deposit of $5 to $10 to reserve a spot for transportation (for information, the minimum cost to rent a bus is $275 plus applicable taxes). The deposit will be refunded to participants who attend the activity they reserved transportation for.

  • This ticket can be booked or cancelled up to 48 hours before the event.
  • A $10 refund will be processed within 5-10 business days for those who are present at the meeting point for transportation.
  • Transportation is available only for children aged 4 and older.
  • Please ensure that you need transportation before booking a seat, as VEQ will cover the service fees for processing cancellations.

If you require wheelchair-accessible transportation, have special needs, or have any other questions, please contact Viktoria at newcomers@veq.ca.

Beethoven and Romanticism
Apr 12 @ 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

This special concert on the theme of Romanticism invites the audience members to discover two magnificent and historical spaces at the Morrin Centre as well as chamber music works composed by Beethoven, Schubert, and Ravel.

Saturday, April 12, 7 p.m.

This special concert on the theme of Romanticism invites the audience members to discover two magnificent and historical spaces at the Morrin Centre as well as chamber music works composed by Beethoven, Schubert, and Ravel.

The evening program will be presented in three parts and will feature 16 musicians of the Orchestre symphonique de Québec who will take turns performing in different chamber music ensemble combinations.

While a string trio will play in the Library, a septet will play in the College Hall, thus dividing the audience in two. Two texts from Quebec and Canadian poets will be read by actor Maureen Roberge. After the first part, every artist and audience member will meet in the College Hall where the evening will continue with performances by an octet, quartet, and septet, and the reading of Beethoven’s touching Letter to the Immortal Beloved (Brief an die Unsterbliche Geliebte, 1812). To round off the evening, the audience will once again be divided between the two spaces to listen to the other of the two programs performed at the beginning: the trio in the Library or the septet in College Hall.

During the evening, music director Clemens Schuldt will address the audience and present the theme of romanticism in Beethoven’s works.

PLEASE NOTE: The audience will not be seated during the concert in the Library, and will need to stay standing during this part of the performance (20 minutes).
