This event is in partnership with Lifelong Learning, a program by Québec City Reading Council, and is open to all 50+ LLL members.

Join Hazel (Tropic), Catherine (Lifelong Learning) and Verity (WE Mind Mental Health) for a relaxing afternoon to celebrate Mental Health Week.  Participants will also receive a Mental Health Goodie Bag!

Reading & Mental Health with Morrin Centre – Mental Health Week
May 8 @ 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Through fiction, you can escape into a world that isn’t your life, but can help you to deal with it.”

            -Matt Haig, author

“We lose ourselves in what we read, only to return to ourselves, transformed and part of a more expansive world.”

            –Judith Butler, author and theorist

Did you know that reading is good for your mental health as well as for your interpersonal relationships? For instance, psychologists from the New School for Social Research noted in 2013 that reading literature improved one’s ability to register and read other people’s emotions.

The Morrin Centre welcomes visitors during its regular library hours to explore book displays on mental health (free for members; $5 for non-members). Current Library hours are: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.   They are located at 44 Chaussée des Écossais, Québec, QC G1R 4H3. Mindfulness – Mental Health Week
May 9 @ 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Mindfulness is the art and practice of of being fully aware of what’s happening in the moment – emotionally, cognitively, in any way!  It involves nourishing the capacity to be conscious of what you’re doing and of what is happening around you, as well as inside you, with open curiosity, kindness and an attitude of non-judgement.  Mindfulness can be particularly helpful during stressful times because it can help us step back from our stormy minds, procide a calmer perspective, and reveal healthier choices available to use.  It can also help when we need to focus on a difficult or complicated task by reducing the ‘chatter’ of our internal monologue.  While it may come naturally to some, mindfulness takes practice to master.

Join professional psychologist Dr. Meagan Daley in-person at the Wellness Centre at Jeffery Hale for a 1.5-hour session in Mindfulness.

Register here.

Morrin In Verse: Reading Poetry Workshop
Nov 17 @ 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Join us for another instalment of our Reading Poetry workshops! We’ll answer two simple questions: What are poems made of, and what can they do?

The image you uploaded promotes a Reading Poetry Workshop organized by Morrin. The design features a roller coaster track, symbolizing the ups and downs of reading poetry, with scattered letters forming parts of the word "POETRY" floating around the roller coaster. The graphic has a minimalistic aesthetic with white lines on a grey background, accented with a red square containing the "Morrin" logo.

This workshop aims to give you the tools and vocabulary with which to discuss, think about, and, above all, appreciate poetry.

You can attend the workshop in person or online. Please email library@morrin.org to learn more or to sign up!
