The Morrin Centre, a National Historic Site and English-language cultural centre in the heart of Old Quebec, is hiring Tour Guides to lead its site interpretation tours. Candidates will greet visitors to the centre and lead them on interpretive tours of the fascinating story of our National Historic Site, sharing its history from the prison era to current day. The successful applicants will also assist in the promotion of site interpretation and the Centre’s activities. Occasionally, they may be asked to assist in the Centre’s library, which is the only English-language lending library in Quebec City.
Candidates should have a keen interest in history and must have strong communication skills and be energetic, outgoing and punctual. They will be able to work autonomously within a team environment. Candidates must have advanced knowledge of both oral and written French and English, with knowledge of additional languages considered an asset. Candidates should have experience with guided tours and working with the public. Applicants must have experience with Microsoft Word and Excel and be proficient at using e-mail.
The successful candidate will have completed at least one-year of post-secondary studies in one of the following fields:
- History
- Historical Interpretation
- Museology
- Archaeology
- Tourism
- Art History
- Communications
- Education
- Theatre
- Liberal Arts
- Heritage Studies
- Other relevant discipline
The candidate selection process will be based on an evaluation of communication skills, past experience and knowledge of both official languages. Candidates must have finished at least one year of post-secondary education with the intention of returning to their studies in the fall. This position may include evening/weekend work. The staffing of this position is dependent on approval of funding by our partner organization.
