DESCRIPTION:Ichor on the Skinwalker\nSocial Deduction Game\n\n\n\n\nThe Morrin Centre and Club Raspoutine present a second edition of the Ichor on the Skinwalker game in the Morrin Centre Library! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIchor on the Skinwalker is a group activity made of deductions and communication\, made to learn about yourself while having fun. Over the course of one evening\, our villagers must identify and neutralize the man eaters that walk among them! To succeed\, they’ll need all of their powers of persuasion. Borrowing from the principles of other social deduction games such as “Werewolf\,” Ichor promises a fun social gathering  even as you learn skills applicable to your daily life. \n  \nThis activity is offered in French\, to participants aged 16 and older. \nThe billet régulier includes a first drink (with or without alcohol). \nThe billet VIP includes a first drink (with or without alcohol) as well as a mini-guided-tour of the prison. \n  \nTo book your ticket\, click here. * \n*Morrin Centre members benefit from a $3 discount on the tickets. Elle a dansé sur plusieurs scènes différentes dans 7 pays\, incluant plus de 15 ans dans le spectacle invité sur les bateaux de croisières qui accostent dans le port du Vieux-Québec. En parallèle\, elle enseigne la gigue et la danse traditionnelle québécoise depuis 2004\, entre autre pour le Club Gigus. En 2022\, elle rejoint le groupe celtique McCool et en 2023\, elle rejoint la distribution du Match d’improvisation giguée\, qui tourne actuellement dans différentes salles au Québec. Récemment boursière du Conseil des Arts et Lettres du Québec et du Conseil des Arts du Canada\, Maude s’intéresse à d’autres types de gigue et se forme auprès de plusieurs mentor(e)s. Elle se questionne sur les variations techniques qui les différencient ou les relient à la gigue québécoise. \n— \n \nCredit: Carbo Photo \nSabin Jacques s’est taillé une brillante réputation dans le milieu de la musique traditionnelle québécoise. Gaspésien d’origine\, il est reconnu dans son milieu autant au Québec que sur la scène internationale. De 1992 à 2009\, il fait d’importantes rencontres avec des artistes populaires : Édith Butler\, Hugues Aufray\, Jean-Pierre Ferland et Grégory Charles. Il participe à l’hommage à Alfred Montmarquette qu’initie le regretté harmoniciste Gabriel Labbé. Installé en Chaudière-Appalaches depuis 2009\, il cofonde le Camp de Souches à Oreilles\, haut lieu bouillonnant de transmission en patrimoine vivant. Sabin a permis\, en tant que formateur\, à des centaines de musiciennes et musiciens\, amateurs ou professionnels\, de s’initier ou d’approfondir leurs connaissances de la musique traditionnelle du Québec. You will learn how to paint on almost anything and make a table runner that is truly your own. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is given in English.\nIt is open to all and no previous experience is required. \nThe Morrin Centre offers a natural material table runner to participants who book a ticket that covers it. If you prefer to bring your own natural fiber table runner\, napkins or placemats\, please book a ticket without table runner. All other crafts material will be provided.\nBook your tickets here!  \n\n\n\n\n\n  \nWorkshop Facilitator—Dianna Burns \n \nI am an enthusiastic and vigorous painter who has had a dedicated studio practice since 1997. I am curious and experimental by nature and my daily art practice includes an intuitive and eclectic painting style. Being a fearless painter I allow myself the presence to let the paint flow\, taking a course of its own and directing the traffic that becomes my art. I am as adventurous and spirited in my art as I am in my life. I am easily bored and must create in order to have a meaning in my life. \nOriginally from Saskatchewan\, I embrace the abundance of nature which is the underlying inspiration that informs my work. There is nothing that can be made that nature hasn’t already perfected. I steep myself in colour and I paint mostly in oil\, usually in an abstract manner. When the spirit moves me I utilize mixed media\, and I have been known to include collage elements\, resin\, inks and encaustic applications as well. Colour\, line and form direct my process of layering paint\, building texture\, moving and removing paint and balancing the composition as it begins to emerge on the canvas\, until I find the combination that expresses my inner voice. My inner voice can change from day to day so a painting usually is transformed a number of times before it is uniquely and decidedly my own. \nI have migrated from spending most of my life on the Prairies in Saskatchewan to Vancouver and since 2021 to Limoilou in Quebec City. In Vancouver I had a very engaged studio practice as an active member of Razstone Studio and the North Vancouver Arts Council. I participated in the East Side Culture Crawl from 2010-2021. I take commissions for conceptual art and portraiture. My work has been shown extensively in Western Canada and sold internationally. \nYou can view my art online here. Through a series of zany and engaging exercises\, you will get a sense of the generative potential of limitation—all while having fun along the way! \nThis activity is bilingual\, English and French will be used alternately. It is open to all\, with no previous experience required. \n \n\nCredit: Justine Latour \n\n\n\n  \n  \n\n\nVanessa Bell \nPoet\, performer\, artist\, curator\, and literary activist\, Vanessa Bell is also director of the poetry collection at Éditions du Quartz. Her literary arts practice has taken her work to the Americas\, Europe\, Africa\, and Australia. She is the author of the collections De rivières (2019\, La Peuplade) and MONUMENTS (2022\, Le Noroît)\, the book Fendre les eaux (2023\, De l’Homme) and co-director of the Anthologie de la poésie actuelle des femmes au Québec 2000 | 2020 (2021\, Remue-ménage). Her writing is vivid and sharp\, a whirlwind of audacity whose central themes are sisterhood\, filiation\, and real and fantasized territories. She has won several grants and awards\, including the Prix Félix-Antoine-Savard (2021\, FIPTR)\, and was a finalist for the Prix de l’Institut canadien de Québec (2021) and the Prix du CALQ – Artiste de l’année en Capitale-Nationale (2023). Under the mentorship of Nicole Brossard\, Vanessa Bell is the first francophone Canadian to be supported by the Writers’ Trust of Canada’s Rising Stars program (2022). \n \n\nCredit: Maude Veilleux \n\n  \n  \n\nSimon Brown \nSimon Brown (he/they/il/iel) is an interdisciplinary artist\, poet\, and translator from rural New Brunswick based in the Quebec City area. Simon’s English and French-language texts have been presented in literary journals\, zines\, chapbooks\, and poetry collections\, as well as in media artworks\, films\, dance pieces\, operettas\, experimental readings and performances at the Banff Centre (Banff)\, Versefest (Ottawa)\, Frye Festival (Moncton)\, Centre international de poésie (Marseille)\, Maison de la littérature (Quebec City)\, Festival acadien de poésie (Caraquet)\, and the Darling Foundry (Montreal)\, among others. Since the early 2010s\, Simon has hosted many creative workshops combining poetry\, improvisation\, and performance in partnership with organizations from across Canada. She moved to Quebec 36 years ago. Tina renewed with her roots during the Quebec City “veillées de danse” in 2013\, and goes dancing every week since. She even travels to the USA to live her passion\, this time for the American Contra\, which she will be delighted to teach you during this workshop. \n\nTo learn more about Tina\, listen to Ès TRAD’s podcast “Porter la tradition.” \n— \n  \n \n  \nBorn in Beresford\, New-Brunswick\, in a family of musicians\, Martin Aucoin plays music by ear since in teenage years. He brings together violin\, “podorythmie” (feet percussions)\, and song in various projects\, on stage and in the studio. He is a known enthusiast for the “veillées de danse” and trad music jam sessions. Involved in his local musical community\, he has also performed at large-scale international events\, with long-established musicians. His repertoire is rooted in the traditions of francophones of North-East America and is full of a natural style and a lively “swing.” \n— \n  \n \nMathieu Baillargeon started learning classical piano at three years old. Initiated into the world of traditional music in 2013\, he started a musical accompaniement training with Rachel Aucoin\, and discovered the diatonic accordion thanks to Sabin Jacques. In 2017\, Mathieu performed for the first time of many at the Carrefour mondial de l’accordéon. He then collaborated with many artists (FLIP Fabrique\, Les Chauffeurs à pied\, etc.) during concerts\, “veillées\,” and animations throughout the province. In 2018\, he co-founded La Déferlance and joined the Board of the Maréemusique organization. He also started regularly giving piano and accordion classes. Since then\, Mathieu has taught at events in Canada and the United States (de Souches à Oreilles\, Ashokan Northern Week\, Danse-Neige\, etc.). As well as his many musical projects\, Mathieu has a master’s degree in statistics and is in charge of the survey methodology at the Institut de la statistique du Québec. \n  \n\n  \nIn the Ballroom—Traditional Music and Dance of a Community is presented in collaboration with the Centre de valorisation du patrimoine vivant Ès TRAD and made possible thanks to financial support from the Gouvernement du Québec and Ville de Québec through their cultural development agreement. \nCheck out the full programming here!

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin\, Madison with an English major\, I enlisted in the Army\, teaching High School GED classes in Panama during my service. I later earned an MFA in Photography and Art from the California Institute of the Arts\, which led to my first teaching job at the University of North Carolina\, Charlotte. Over 35 years\, I taught at Rutgers\, Moore College of Art\, SUNY Albany\, Russel Sage College\, the International Center of Photography\, the School of Visual Arts\, and New York University. \nAs a practicing photographer\, I spent 30 years documenting the Altars of the African Diaspora in Brazil\, Argentina\, Uruguay\, and Cuba\, culminating in my book Altar Book. My work has been exhibited internationally and is in the permanent collections of Davidson College and the Brooklyn Museum. \nTeaching has been the pride of my career\, and I’m deeply grateful for the many students I’ve had the privilege to mentor.” \nAbstract \nPeter Kloehn\, a retired Professor at NYU and SVA\, presents a lecture on the pivotal role of photography in the transition from Modernism to Postmodernism.
