DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, Oct. 28\, VEQ is organising a guide tour to the National Assembly. The National Assembly of Quebec  is Québec’s legislative body. All legislative measures in the province are approved or rejected here\, which is why it is important to learn and understand its proceedures. \nThe guided tour\, in English\, will last for 60 minutes\, but the security screening takes around 30 minutes prior le tour\, so do factor arriving at least 30 minutes earlier. \n\nMeeting place: in front of the Tourny fountain.\nMetting time: Please arrive between 10:15 and 10:30 a.m. as it takes about 30 minutes to go through the security screening\n\n\n  \nSchedule: \n10:15 – 10:30 a.m.    Arrive at the National Assembly. We will meet in front of the Tourny Fountain. \n10:30 – 11:15 a.m.    Security screening. To facilitate this process\, please read carefull the information here\, as it details what is and what is not allowed to bring. \n11:15 – 12:15 p.m.     Guided tour in English. Please feel free to ask questions! \n12:15 p.m.    End of the tour. If you get hungry\, you can visit any of the many restaurants near the Assembly. VEQ will provide the transportation to the Grande Plée Bleue for FREE. Once there\, we will take an interpretive tour (2.5 hours) guided by experts in the field. The trail is 3\,4 kilometers on flat terrain so families can bring a trail stroller. \n\n When selecting your tickets on Eventbrite\, choose “VEQ Newcomer” if you are a newcomer from the Greater Québec City region. Departure from Québec City: 8:00 a.m.   ( 1270 Ch Ste-Foy\, Québec\, QC G1S 2M4)\n If you are part of the South Shore English Network (MCDC) group\, select “General Admission” when getting your tickets. SUMMARY:Sunset Ferry Ride to Quai Paquet for Newcomers
DESCRIPTION:Are you new to Quebec City and looking for something fun to do? The Voice of English-speaking Quebec invites you for a fun-filled evening at the Newcomers Free Sunset Ferry Ride on Wednesday\, August 23 from 5:40 to 8:30 PM. \nWe will ride the ferry to Quai Paquet in Lévis that leaves at 5:40 PM. Once there\, we can grab some food or some ice cream (or both!) from the food trucks available or from the ice cream shop located one block away from the quai\, while getting to know each other! We will be returning on the 8:00 PM ferry (to Quebec).  We will bring board games to facilitate your interaction with others. At the quai\, there are 160 water jets\, perfect to refresh you\, so make sure you bring or wear your sandals or why not your swimsuit! If you are an avid photographer\, you can also check out the Red stairs (193 steps) located two blocks away from the quai\, and admire the beauty of the view from atop. There is also a café near the quai\, not far from the ice cream shop. Feeling like picknicking? By all means\, bring your own snacks and a picnic blanket or portable chairs! \nThe fees for the ferry ride are covered for participants and the event is open to all English-speaking newcomers living in the Greater Quebec City region. DESCRIPTION:This is a one-time event\, so you don’t really want to miss out on it! \n  \n  \nThe rabaska activity is NOT suitable for children under 6 years of age. \nSince this is going to be the only occasion that we are going to visit this park in the summer\, we are also opening 10 spots for those interested in simply catching a ride with us\, or if for example in your family you have a child under 6 years old (and cannot participate in the rabaska activity). There is a limited capacity for the rabaska and hike guided tours. \nFor more information about the Jacques-Cartier National Park*\, visit their website. We will stop at km 10\, at the Discovery Centre to pick up the guides and for a quick bathroom break. Then\, we will continue driving until we reach km 18\, where the rabaska activity will take place.\nA guided rabaska (type of boat) descent on the Jacques-Cartier river\, lasting from 1h to 1h15.\nA guided hike (l’Aperçu)\, with a duration of 1 hour.\nEntrance fees to the park.\nLife jackets DURING the rabaska activity. SUMMARY:Sugar Shack Brunch (for NEWCOMERS)
DESCRIPTION:Don’t ruin your appetite! We are going to Sucrerie Blouin to savour a scrumptious québecois brunch! \n  \nVEQ will provide transportation from its offices to the sugar shack (in Île d’Orléans) and back to the office. We are scheduled to arrive at 10:45 AM and meals will be served at 11:30 AM. \nUpon arrival\, you can visit some of the animals found on their small farm or ride the cart pulled by a horse to tour the property and learn how maple syrup is produced. \nAre you ready to live one of the most memorable local traditions?! \n \n  \nSchedule: \nThe bus (free of cost) will leave VEQ’s offices at 10:00 AM. Our offices are located at 1270\, chemin Sainte-Foy. Participants riding the bus are encouraged to arrive 10-15 minutes before the departure time. \nArrival at Sucrerie Blouin in Île d’Orléans at 10:45 AM. \nFrom 10:45 AM to 11:30 AM participants can tour the premises or engage in one of the activities/games planned by María Castro. \n11:30 AM: Brunch is served. Each table can seat 8-10 people. The service is all-you-can-eat style (à volonté in French). \nAfter the brunch\, everyone is invited to try making their own maple syrup snow candy (maple taffy). \n1:30 PM: The bus returns to VEQ’s offices. \nThe menu usually consists of a of pea soup as a starter\, followed by a variety of delicious traditional dishes such as baked ham\, omelette or scrambled eggs\, sausages\, tourtière (the famous meat pie)\, baked beans\, cretons (a kind of pork pâté)\, crepes\, bread\, and pork rinds. Yummy! All these dishes are of course prepared with maple syrup. \n  \nReservations and tickets are made through Eventbrite and the costs depends on the age of the participants: \n$20    – People 15 years old and older \n$10    – Children ages 7-14 years old \n$5      – Children ages between 3-6 years old \n$0      – Children under 2 years of age \n  \nTickets will not be refunded if cancellations are made after 3:00 PM on Tuesday March 21st\, 2023. \n

DESCRIPTION:Meeting people in a new city where the official language is probably not one you are fluent in can be challenging. VEQ has organised a FREE self-guided visit to the Civilisation Museum\, where you will surely not lack conversation topics! \nSince it is required by the museum\, we have access to a specific number of attendees\, and registration is required. The maximum capacity is 24 people\, regardless of age. \nThe entrance to the exhibit Times of Pharaohs is scheduled at 1:00 PM.
