During the summer of 1942, German U-Boats entered the Gulf of St. Lawrence and sank over two dozen Allied ships. The devastation was so great that the British Admiralty had to order the shutdown of the whole St. Lawrence system.<\/p>\n

Based on the logs, and interviews with the surviving U-boat commanders, this illustrated lecture describes the extraordinary circumstances under which this campaign took place. \u00a0It also relates several German spy missions in Canada waters and an incredible breakout of captured German submarine commanders from their camp in Ontario. Hans Rudel, the most highly decorated German service man of WWII, U-505, the most unlucky submarine to have ever sailed, and Marlene Dietrich\u2019s\u00a0\u201cLilly Marlene\u201d\u00a0are all part of this presentation.<\/p>\n
