Theater Performance<\/h2>\n

\u201cWhat is it to look back on a life?\u201d asks Anne in the opening line of THIS IS ANNE ~ Older & Wiser ~<\/em>. Anne Shirley Blythe, of Green Gables fame, now in her later years, reminisces and reflects on her past\u2014the very difficult moments and those of great joy.<\/p>\n

Created, compiled and performed by Maja Bannerman, with accompanying music by Rusty McCarthy, this 55-minute performance includes many of the beloved moments from Anne of Green Gables<\/em> and the subsequent seven novels in the series by Lucy Maud Montgomery.<\/p>\n

Bannerman becomes Anne and McCarthy\u2019s music subtly weaves in and out of the scenes adding a soundscape that brings a deep emotional connection to Anne\u2019s world.<\/p>\n

Workshop<\/h2>\n

The Power of Words Aloud: From the Page to the Stage<\/em><\/p>\n

Experience how your voice, combined with gestures and soundscape, can transform text on the page to theatre on the stage. Maja will guide the participants on how to use their voice and body in different ways to create a theatrical presentation of text. With vocal and theatre exercises, participants will discover the possibilities of how to bring text to life. Rusty McCarthy will improvise a musical soundscape and\/or background incidental music for each text.<\/p>\n

Participants will have the opportunity to explore and perform their text. Notes for Reflection that support both creative and personal growth will be a take-away at the end of the workshop.<\/p>\n

Bring with you a short text (poem, story, journal entry, script), or choose from a selection of literature on-site. The excerpts are limited to a 2-minute length when spoken aloud.<\/p>\n

This workshop is open to all. No prior experience is required.<\/p>\n

The Artists<\/h2>\n

Since childhood, Maja Bannerman<\/strong> has had a passion for writing, singing, and performing. Raised in Ottawa and Sault Ste.Marie, Ontario, she is known for her bold and evocative performances. She first gained recognition in the 1980s as one of the pioneering artists who transformed the cultural and artistic landscape of Queen Street West in Toronto. With the support of Arts Councils, she has received several grants to create performances and tour across Canada, presenting her unique blend of music and spoken word.<\/p>\n

Last year Maja released What a World, an album of original songs produced by her partner, Rusty McCarthy.<\/p>\n

Maja has longed to perform in Quebec City again and is thrilled to be coming to the Morrin Centre!<\/p>\n

Born in Newfoundland and having lived in northern Qu\u00e9bec, Sault Ste. Marie and Toronto, Rusty McCarthy<\/strong> is an accomplished singer, songwriter, producer, and one of the finest Blues\/Jazz guitarists on the scene today. He has played with pop\u2019s Alannah Myles, Mary Margaret O\u2019Hara, and many more artists, performing on major stages in Canada, the U.S., Europe, and the UK.<\/p>\n

McCarthy has composed scores for several films and has been awarded the NOMFA (Northern Ontario Music Award) for Best Engineer. He has released over 15 albums of original music in several genres including his recent instrumental albums, the meditative Great Lakes Nocturnes<\/em>; Little Things<\/em>, an album featuring small instruments; and, this year, a jazz influenced recording, Touching Ground<\/em>.<\/p>\n
