SUMMARY:My Morrin—Lecture: Postmodern Art and Photography
DESCRIPTION:My Morrin—Lecture:\nPostmodern Art and Photography\n\n\n\n\nCome learn about the pivotal role of photography in the transition from Modernism to Postmodernism. \nPlease visit the Morrin Centre website to book. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs part of the My Morrin program\, Peter Kloehn\, a retired professor of art history and history of photography\, offers a talk to explore how the medium was integral to the shift from Abstract Expressionism to Pop Art and beyond. \nPresenter Biography \nPeter Kloehn\, retired Professor of Art History and History of Photography \n \n“I was born in Appleton\, Wisconsin. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin\, Madison with an English major\, I enlisted in the Army\, teaching High School GED classes in Panama during my service. I later earned an MFA in Photography and Art from the California Institute of the Arts\, which led to my first teaching job at the University of North Carolina\, Charlotte. Over 35 years\, I taught at Rutgers\, Moore College of Art\, SUNY Albany\, Russel Sage College\, the International Center of Photography\, the School of Visual Arts\, and New York University. \nAs a practicing photographer\, I spent 30 years documenting the Altars of the African Diaspora in Brazil\, Argentina\, Uruguay\, and Cuba\, culminating in my book Altar Book. My work has been exhibited internationally and is in the permanent collections of Davidson College and the Brooklyn Museum. \nTeaching has been the pride of my career\, and I’m deeply grateful for the many students I’ve had the privilege to mentor.” \nAbstract \nPeter Kloehn\, a retired Professor at NYU and SVA\, presents a lecture on the pivotal role of photography in the transition from Modernism to Postmodernism. As an art historian specializing in photography\, Kloehn explores how the medium was integral to the shift from Abstract Expressionism to Pop Art and beyond. Drawing from his personal experience as a witness to this cultural transformation\, Kloehn reflects on his career’s intersection with key historical moments and figures. \nHis lecture also addresses the often-overlooked significance of photography as a transitional art form\, offering a unique perspective on its critical role in shaping the broader history of art. \nKeywords:  Modernism\, Postmodernism\, Abstract Expressionism\, Pop Art\, Photography

SUMMARY:The Grief Recovery Method: Introduction Session
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Zoom for an introduction session to the Grief Recovery Method. \nThe Grief Recovery Method Introduction Session involves a group discussion about “What is Grief?” and describes the course format\, what participants can expect from the Grief Recovery Method course\, and what the Method expects from participants. \nThe format of the 8-week course involves reading and discussion (book club style!) while feeling safe and resourced (base camp style!).\n\nYou’ll meet your Grief Guide and Group Facilitator\, CMA Medeiros\, who will explain everything you need to know for the course and it’s an opportunity for you to ask her any questions.\n\nThis is a closed group.\n\nFor more information\n\nResearch at Kent State University has shown that The Grief Recovery Method approach to helping grievers deal with the pain of emotional loss in any relationship is evidence-based and effective.  To find out more about The Grief Recovery Method and to download free e-books on grief\, visit the Grief Recovery website. \nQuestions? \nPlease contact Verity\, We Mind Mental Health Program Coordinator\, by email or phone at 418-684-5333\, ext. 11932.
