After the short presentation\, we will walk back to the main building for lunch. \nThe trail is mostly flat and follows a wooden boardwalk path. Please bring a cold lunch. \nPlease note that this activity is mostly outdoors. DESCRIPTION:Fall Seminar: Nietzsche\, On the Genealogy of Morals\nWeek 2: Good and Evil/Bad\n\n\n\n\nFollowing the success of his The Odyssey seminar last year\, Greg Campbell is back for a four-part seminar series on Friedrich Nietzsche’s essay collection On the Genealogy of Morals. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParticipants will read through the full work and explore its themes through open discussion. To help make the seminar a convivial and ongoing conversation\, participants are expected to attend all four sessions. \nThis activity is open to all Morrin Centre members regardless of experience with seminars or philosophy. \nTo learn more and register\, please see this page. \n  \nWeek 2 Themes\nMaster and slave morality; herd mentality; egoism; usefulness and forgetfulness; will to nothingness; the priestly cast; unhealthiness; fall of religion and the church; resentment and reactivity; revenge and the decline of man; the falsehood of the subject; aristocratic activity; man becomes interesting. \n  \nThe Facilitator\nGreg Campbell trained as a pharmacist before returning to college to study philosophy and history of ideas. During his studies\, Greg continued to work part-time as a pharmacist. In addition to teaching a humanities course at Wilbur Smith College\, Greg was also a stay-at-home dad for a while after moving to Chicago in 2014. Montgomery\, and participate in a theater workshop! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Performance\n“What is it to look back on a life?” asks Anne in the opening line of THIS IS ANNE ~ Older & Wiser ~. Anne Shirley Blythe\, of Green Gables fame\, now in her later years\, reminisces and reflects on her past—the very difficult moments and those of great joy. \nCreated\, compiled and performed by Maja Bannerman\, with accompanying music by Rusty McCarthy\, this 55-minute performance includes many of the beloved moments from Anne of Green Gables and the subsequent seven novels in the series by Lucy Maud Montgomery. \nBannerman becomes Anne and McCarthy’s music subtly weaves in and out of the scenes adding a soundscape that brings a deep emotional connection to Anne’s world. \n“Fiery\, funny\, poignant!” \nTo learn more about the show\, visit its official website HERE. \nWorkshop\nThe Power of Words Aloud: From the Page to the Stage \nExperience how your voice\, combined with gestures and soundscape\, can transform text on the page to theatre on the stage. Maja will guide the participants on how to use their voice and body in different ways to create a theatrical presentation of text. With vocal and theatre exercises\, participants will discover the possibilities of how to bring text to life. Rusty McCarthy will improvise a musical soundscape and/or background incidental music for each text. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to explore and perform their text. Notes for Reflection that support both creative and personal growth will be a take-away at the end of the workshop. \nBring with you a short text (poem\, story\, journal entry\, script)\, or choose from a selection of literature on-site. Raised in Ottawa and Sault Ste.Marie\, Ontario\, she is known for her bold and evocative performances. She first gained recognition in the 1980s as one of the pioneering artists who transformed the cultural and artistic landscape of Queen Street West in Toronto. Club:\nCreate a Zine\n\n\n\n\nCome craft a zine with Mary Thaler\, author and illustrator of numerous comic zines! \n \n\n\n\nBeloved by poets\, artists\, and activists\, zines are small\, handmade books that anyone can make to share art\, stories\, or information. In this 60-minute workshop\, kids will come up with an idea for what they want to say and use art supplies to turn their message into a zine they can share with friends.\n\n\n\n\n\nBook a place for your child now! \nParents may participate as observers and do not need to book tickets for themselves. \nThis activity is offered as a one-time event before the start of the next season of the S.T.E.A.M. Club (Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, Art\, and Math). DESCRIPTION:Fall Seminar: Nietzsche\, On the Genealogy of Morals\nWeek 1: Overview and Preface\n \n\n\n\n\nFollowing the success of his The Odyssey seminar last year\, Greg Campbell is back for a four-part seminar series on Friedrich Nietzsche’s essay collection On the Genealogy of Morals. \n\n\n\n\nParticipants will read through the full work and explore its themes through open discussion. To help make the seminar a convivial and ongoing conversation\, participants are expected to attend all four sessions. \nThis activity is open to all Morrin Centre members regardless of experience with seminars or philosophy. \nTo learn more and register\, please see this page. \n  \nWeek 1 Themes\nSchopenhauer: will and idea; suffering; primacy of will; escape from will.\nNietzsche: Birth of Tragedy; Apollo and Dionysius.\nNietzsche’s style; ambiguity; the aphoristic form; the ‘positionless’ position; nihilism; metaphysics; the ambiguity of religion.\nPreface: the English psychologists; ‘natural’ morality; “know thyself”; origins of morality; morality’s history; openness; individuality; will to knowledge; value of morality; pity; joy; critique of values; rumination and forgetting; the future (what does Nietzsche want?). \n  \nThe Facilitator\nGreg Campbell trained as a pharmacist before returning to college to study philosophy and history of ideas. Having completed a Masters degree at Essex University in the UK and obtained his doctorate in philosophy from University College Dublin in Ireland\, he undertook a post-doctorate at Columbia University\, New York (aesthetics and politics in Adorno). During his studies\, Greg continued to work part-time as a pharmacist. In addition to teaching a humanities course at Wilbur Smith College\, Greg was also a stay-at-home dad for a while after moving to Chicago in 2014. Since moving to Quebec City in 2020\, Greg has continued to work in the education sector.
