SUMMARY:On the Traces of the Restoration Project: Archive Highlights and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:On the Traces of the Restoration Project:\nArchive Highlights and Discussion\n\n\n\n\nDid you know that 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the Morrin Centre? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDiscover some archive highlights and join us for a discussion about the 1980s–2000s restoration project of our heritage site. \nAs the Morrin Centre celebrates its 20th anniversary\, we invite you to an activity about the archives of the restoration project\, the second phase of which was completed in 2012\, that transformed the old building into the cultural center it is today. The activity will begin with a presentation (in French) by Morrin Centre’s collections assistant Rose Caron of an upcoming display that will highlight the archives of the restoration project\, followed by a (bilingual) discussion on the restoration of the Morrin Centre where you will have the opportunity to share your own experiences or anecdotes. \nIf you would like to share your memories or give a short presentation—about the Morrin Centre and its restoration between the late 1980s and 2012—during this event\, please get in touch by emailing us at cultural.programming@morrin.org. \n  \nThe Presenter \nRose Caron is a collections assistant at the Morrin Centre and a graduate student in history at Université Laval. She is currently working on her master’s thesis about shipwreck accounts in New France. \nShe is joining the Morrin Centre team this summer thanks to a heritage professional experience bursary from Première Ovation. \n\n\n  \nSIGN UP BY VISITING THE MORRIN CENTRE WEBSITE HERE: https://www.morrin.org/en/event/sur-les-traces-du-projet-de-restoration/

SUMMARY:Book Launch: "A Hungry Fire"
DESCRIPTION:Book Launch:\nA Hungry Fire by Élyssa Marcoux-Bissoondath\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for this book launch with author Élyssa Marcoux-Bissoondath! \n\n\n\n\nThere will be a reading\, a Q&A portion\, and a book signing\, with refreshments and drinks included. \nSave your spot to help us prepare the refreshments! \nThe Author \n \nÉlyssa Marcoux Bissoondath is a bilingual\, biracial author who has worked as a production editor for both CBC and Radio-Canada. She holds a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia and undergraduate degrees in Classical Studies and Ancient Oriental Languages from Université Laval. She resides in Québec City\, QC. \n  \n  \nCredit: Antoine Dumont \nThe Book \n\n\n \nThis debut novel—inspired by personal experience—is an honest portrayal of a young woman who seeks to pursue a fulfilling life while navigating a healthcare system which\, despite the best intentions of many of its practitioners\, consistently fails to take women’s health seriously. \nOffbeat and humorous\, this is the story of Dido who strives to be as fearsome as her mythological namesake\, the legendary Queen Dido of Carthage. Entering her second decade of unexplained chronic pelvic pain\, she processes her life through the filter of the Aeneid. Through the ages\, the muses have sung of the rage of Achilles and the cunning of Odysseus. Now\, with acerbic humour\, they bear witness for a modern audience to the wrath of Dido as she waves a wonky speculum aloft. \nPolyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS)\, formerly polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis affect one in ten Canadian women each\, yet the diagnosis can take an average of five and ten years\, respectively. This book hopes to offer catharsis and companionship to those searching for answers\, regardless of diagnosis. \n\n\n\n\n  \n**Please visit the Morrin Centre website to sign up: https://www.morrin.org/en/event/book-launcha-hungry-fire-by-elyssa-marcoux-bissoondath/
