SUMMARY:Morrin Centre: Page to Stage
DESCRIPTION:Page to Stage:\nTHIS IS ANNE ~Older & Wiser~\n\n\n\n\nEnjoy a theatre performance of many of the beloved moments from Anne of Green Gables and the subsequent seven novels in the series by L. M. Montgomery\, and participate in a theater workshop! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater Performance\n“What is it to look back on a life?” asks Anne in the opening line of THIS IS ANNE ~ Older & Wiser ~. Anne Shirley Blythe\, of Green Gables fame\, now in her later years\, reminisces and reflects on her past—the very difficult moments and those of great joy. \nCreated\, compiled and performed by Maja Bannerman\, with accompanying music by Rusty McCarthy\, this 55-minute performance includes many of the beloved moments from Anne of Green Gables and the subsequent seven novels in the series by Lucy Maud Montgomery. \nBannerman becomes Anne and McCarthy’s music subtly weaves in and out of the scenes adding a soundscape that brings a deep emotional connection to Anne’s world. \n“Fiery\, funny\, poignant!” \nTo learn more about the show\, visit its official website HERE. \nWorkshop\nThe Power of Words Aloud: From the Page to the Stage \nExperience how your voice\, combined with gestures and soundscape\, can transform text on the page to theatre on the stage. Maja will guide the participants on how to use their voice and body in different ways to create a theatrical presentation of text. With vocal and theatre exercises\, participants will discover the possibilities of how to bring text to life. Rusty McCarthy will improvise a musical soundscape and/or background incidental music for each text. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to explore and perform their text. Notes for Reflection that support both creative and personal growth will be a take-away at the end of the workshop. \nBring with you a short text (poem\, story\, journal entry\, script)\, or choose from a selection of literature on-site. The excerpts are limited to a 2-minute length when spoken aloud. \nThis workshop is open to all. No prior experience is required. \n  \nThe Artists\nSince childhood\, Maja Bannerman has had a passion for writing\, singing\, and performing. Raised in Ottawa and Sault Ste.Marie\, Ontario\, she is known for her bold and evocative performances. She first gained recognition in the 1980s as one of the pioneering artists who transformed the cultural and artistic landscape of Queen Street West in Toronto. With the support of Arts Councils\, she has received several grants to create performances and tour across Canada\, presenting her unique blend of music and spoken word. \nLast year Maja released What a World\, an album of original songs produced by her partner\, Rusty McCarthy. \nMaja has longed to perform in Quebec City again and is thrilled to be coming to the Morrin Centre! \n \nCr. Lauren Garbutt Photography \nWebsite | Facebook | Instagram \n— \nBorn in Newfoundland and having lived in northern Québec\, Sault Ste. Marie and Toronto\, Rusty McCarthy is an accomplished singer\, songwriter\, producer\, and one of the finest Blues/Jazz guitarists on the scene today. He has played with pop’s Alannah Myles\, Mary Margaret O’Hara\, and many more artists\, performing on major stages in Canada\, the U.S.\, Europe\, and the UK. \nMcCarthy has composed scores for several films and has been awarded the NOMFA (Northern Ontario Music Award) for Best Engineer. He has released over 15 albums of original music in several genres including his recent instrumental albums\, the meditative Great Lakes Nocturnes; Little Things\, an album featuring small instruments; and\, this year\, a jazz influenced recording\, Touching Ground. \nWebsite | Facebook

SUMMARY:Essentrics®
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a NEW addition to our ‘Move for Mental Health’ activities: Essentrics®! \n  \nEssentrics is a dynamic full-body workout that combines stretching and strengthening to build lean\, flexible muscles.  The workout focuses on eccentric contraction—stretching a muscle while it is engaged. \n  \nCreated by former ballerina Miranda Esmonde-White in Montreal\, Canada\, it treats the body as one connected system. \n  \nBelow are the key details about how it works: \n  \nThe Science \n\nEccentric Contraction: Traditional exercises (like lifting weights) shorten muscles. Essentrics stretches the muscle while under tension.  This mimics the body’s natural braking system.\nRehydrates Fascia: Fascia is the connective tissue that wraps around muscles.  Lack of movement causes fascia layers to stick together. Essentrics’ fluid\, slow movements lubricate these tissues\, making you feel less stiff.\nFull-Body Movement: Instead of isolating muscles (like only working your biceps)\, it uses the whole body. This prevents joint damage and protects against injury.\n\nTop Health Benefits \n\nRelieves Pain: Many people use it to reduce chronic back and joint pain.\nImproves Posture & Shape: It naturally elongates the body\, resulting in a toned\, slender physique without bulky muscles.\nIncreases Mobility: It restores full movement to stiff joints.\n\nHow to Practice \n\nEquipment-Free: It uses your own body weight and gravity to create resistance.\nNo Impact: There is no jumping\, kneeling\, or heavy lifting.\nFor Everyone: It is designed for all ages and fitness levels.\n\nClasses are led by Joëlle Turcotte\, a certified Essentrics instructor since 2019.  With extensive training and nearly four decades of professional experience\, well-being\, self-awareness\, and body awareness are the core principles that motivate Joëlle’s guiding of participants of all ages and skill levels. \n  \nYou’ll need to bring with you: \n\na yoga-type mat\na bottle of water\nwear comfortable clothes\n\nSpace is limited to a maximum of 12 participants. \n  \nRegister here! \n  \n$60.00 for all eight classes. Note that refunds will not be issued for missed classes\, unless the class is cancelled by us. \n  \nQuestions? \nFor more information about Essentrics®\, please contact Verity\, We Mind Mental Health Program Coordinator: 581-705-2149\, or vjordan@jhpartners.net.

SUMMARY:Morrin Centre: Shared Horizons - Dynamic Collages Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Shared Horizons:\nDynamic Collages Workshop\n\n\n\n\nCome and experience collage as a technique that gives access to a better understanding of the art of video-mapping. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring this event\, we will explore the relationship between image and the architecture of the Morrin Centre\, using collage as a starting point to envision a video-mapping work. \nPROGRAM \nPresentation and Screening: Irina González will present her video-mapping short films created for the Morrin Centre and briefly explain how these works emerged from playing with the building’s architecture and forms. \nCollage Workshop: Each participant will create their own collage using a reproduction of the Morrin Centre’s façade. Participants will be free to experiment with various materials while exploring the relationship between their composition and the building’s architectural forms. \nAnimating the Collages: The various collages will be combined and layered with images on acetate sheets. We will experiment with animating them to envision a dynamic visual work. The results will be photographed and displayed on screen. \n  \nThis activity will be given in French. All materials will be provided\, no previous experience is required. \n  \nARTISTS\nThe artistic practice of Irina González “La Verdolaga” unfolds rhizomatically across the performing and visual arts. Having arrived in Quebec City in 2019\, she is pursuing a doctorate in literature and the performing and screen arts at Université Laval. \n— \nSebastian López is a collage artist specialised in junk journaling. \n  \nCLICK HERE to purchase tickets
