Quebec City Reading Council is looking for volunteers to tutor students. Come share your skills!
The Quebec City Reading Council (QCRC) is desperately seeking volunteer tutors for their one-on-one tutoring programme. Many students need extra help this semester at the Eastern Quebec Learning Center and they are reaching out for native English-speaking volunteers who can give an hour of their time once per week. They have students on a four week rotation which means that following four weeks working together, everyone takes a one week break and can decide to commit to another four weeks or take a longer break. The subject matter is English reading, writing and comprehension or Math or Information Technology skills. QCRC will also gladly welcome native French speakers who are really well positioned to help out in bilingual programmes where students are concentrating on French skills for the workplace.
Volunteer needed to lead English Discussion Groups at the Morrin Centre
The Morrin Centre, located in the heart of beautiful Quebec City (44, chaussée des Écossais Québec) is seeking a volunteer for their Wednesday afternoon group which meets from 1:30 pm to 3 pm during the fall. Furthermore, the centre would like to start a new group on Thursdays from 5:30 pm to 7 pm. The maximum number of people per group is 10 participants, although attendance varies.
We are looking for a friendly, dynamic volunteer who has had some experience teaching or leading a group. Knowledge of French isn’t really necessary. The Morrin Centre screens the participants to make sure that they have an intermediate knowledge of English. There is no curriculum to follow, but the discussion leader can help people with vocabulary and pronunciation and suggest topics for discussion.
