The Morrin Centre, a National Historic Site and English-language cultural centre in the heart of Old Quebec, is hiring a part-time Library Assistant. The successful candidate will be responsible, alongside the Library Manager, for the planning and development of the Centre’s reading program for children. The successful candidate will help to improve library services and expand the collection. While working at the library desk, he/she will work closely with the Centre’s patrons and visitors from around the world.
Candidates should have a keen interest in literature, especially children’s literature, and education. As well, the candidates should have strong communication skills, and be energetic, out-going and punctual. He/she will be able to work autonomously within a team environment. Candidates must have advanced knowledge of both oral and written French and English. Applicants must also have experience with Microsoft Office Suite programs.
Candidates should be: creative, dynamic, enthusiastic, self-starter, organized, focused on results, flexible, trustworthy, and have a genuine interest for people, working with children, and the cultural sector. The successful candidate will have completed at least one year of post-secondary studies in one of the following fields: Library Studies, Literature, Education, History, Museology, Art History or another relevant discipline. The candidate selection process will be based on an evaluation of communication skills, past experience and knowledge of both official languages.
This is a part-time position (10 hours per week), and may include evening/weekend work.
