Michael Domes, Physiotherapist – Réseau Santé 360

Contact information

A Physical Therapist since 1998, Michael began his career with the Canadian Forces (CF) in northeastern Alberta.  In this setting, he obtained skill and expertise in rehabilitating musculoskeletal and orthopedic injury in the context of sport and work environments.  This practice was supported well with post-graduate training, and he obtained advanced certification in Manual Therapy (E3V3), and Certificates in Medical Acupuncture, and Intramuscular Stimulation.  An appreciation for Integrative Medicine sparked his search beyond Western modalities, and into acupuncture.  While he is not practicing needling techniques at this time in Québec for the moment, Mike is interested in a holistic approach to health and wellness.  Cupping, or Tissue Distraction Release With Movement (TDR-WM) is in his toolbox currently, and it is an approach to myofascial release techniques that “stretches” figuratively, from East to West.

His experience has diversified in the last 10 years, by moving from Alberta to B.C., through the CF, into Private Practice, and now most recently on to public practice with Island Health.  Over this time he has consolidated his insight into the fundamental nature and need for good teamwork to reach one’s optimal health.  It has been his primary focus to work with adult and geriatric populations during the workday, and yet kids have been on the mind most of the other times (with Naomi his wife, the last 15 years have been practicing pediatrics with their 4 children and then the children’s friends…Naomi herself is a Pediatric Physiotherapist too).  As such, he has come to understand that not only is Exercise Great Medicine…but that it is fundamental for all ages, from A through Z!

This was the motto of a recent family adventure in community health promotion.  Mike and his family took on a project where the family would cycle from A to Z…from Amsterdam to Bad Ragaz, Schweiz.   After 1200+ km of pedalling on their 3 unique and Dutch tandem cycles (with kids at the front), they successfully rode along the Rhine River and raised funds to purchase 2 Accessible Cycles for community folk with special needs, and so to promote movement medicine for all…from ages A through Z.  It was truly an Active Cycle to promote the human need for ACTion in the human LIFE-cycle.
